Navigating New U.S. Tariffs When Shipping from Australia: Aramex, Australia Post, and Sendle

In August 2025, the United States made two seismic changes to its import policy:

  1. The end of the “de minimis” exemption — previously allowing low-value shipments (under USD 800) to enter duty-free — now means all parcels, regardless of value, are subject to duties and customs processing

  2. A 10% baseline “reciprocal tariff”, plus steeper duties on specific industries (e.g. up to 50% on steel, aluminum, copper and 25% on autos), now apply to goods exported from Australia

Australia Post

Australia Post will update APIS to meet the new mandatory customs declaration requirements for the below.

Country of Origin (COO) – this refers to the country of manufacture of the goods.
• Value of Goods – This must be declared accurately for each item within your parcel. Values less than AUD$1.00 will not be accepted.
• Harmonised System (HS) Tariff Code – It is your responsibility to ensure that the correct HS tariff number is used.

Australia Post has joined a number of international postal operators to temporarily suspend partial postal services to the United States (US) and Puerto Rico, effective immediately until further notice

Sendle

Sendle is working on a new DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) service for US shipments, which would allow the sender to pay all duties and taxes upfront, potentially making the process smoother.
